The best thing about the mountains is they give me everything I want before I even ask for it. Being here, to me, is like being one step
away from heaven. Everything is absolutely gorgeous. The moment we started at the bottom and began climbing up, I was like a kid again. Perfect, considering this is the one place I very clearly remember visiting as a child. As we rose higher and higher, I was mesmerized. The trees had a magical display of leaves, variegated with the most gorgeous colors of fall. Lime green, orange, yellow, red, dark green, even a very faint, light pink. The wind so cold you can see your breath. For just a moment I perched my head outside of the window and it all literally took my breath away. We stopped at this small country store that we always stop at every year when we come here. I stood on a gazebo up on the edge of a hill with a fantastic view, smoking a cigarette, taking pictures. The mountains were covered in a deep fog, the wind was strong, I grabbed Joeapos;s jacket and pulled it in tight around me. And right then, right there I was home.

Iapos;ve always been more of a mountain girl anyways. I like cold weather, I like solitude, and I hate change. Perhaps my favorite thing about this place is it barely changes. It is always the same, always has been, since I was little. There is still the same festival we come to annually at the exact same time of year. The Woolly Worm Festival, which is why we are here now. As totally redneck as this sounds, itapos;s a bunch of arts and crafts, apple cider, pumpkins, and the kids race woolly worms. Seems a little silly, but we had a blast doing it when we were young. And Zalia is just about old enough to start doing it herself. A special family tradition that I never want to quit doing.

Being here just makes me feel so whole. So happy. Itapos;s so beautiful. It actually FEELS like Fall. Unfortunately, Wilmington is still too hot for me to enjoy thsi time of year...my favorite time of year. I would like to move here one day. Boone already feels like home and I would love to eventually make it official. Not any time soon, obviously, but in the future.

So...I am going to run. I finally have some privacy from the family, so I am going to run out for a smoke. Hope you guys are having a great weekend...I will update as much as I can, but it might have to wait til I get back on Monday. Love you
